Are You Committed?

There were three frogs sitting on a log in the pond. One of them decides to jump off and sign up for training with me.

How many frogs are left sitting on the log?

Before you answer, let’s go over what a decision is.

To decide means “come to a resolution in the mind as a result of consideration.”  Thanks, google dictionary.

With that in mind, let me tell you how our first few weeks of training went:

Week 1: The frog called me from the log to tell me we were going to only do one session a week and that we will actually start next week.

Week 2: The frog jumped off the log and showed up to training, but cut reps short because they got hard.

Week 3: After we discussed pushing through discomfort, the frog showed up again and worked hard for the hour we had together. The frog sat on the log for the rest of the 167 hours in the week rather than hop off to work on nutrition, sleep, mindset, and social media use.

Week 4: The frog showed up and worked hard. The frog started to make changes outside of training such as not hanging out on the log all day every day. The frog even started to consider that maybe the other two on-the-log buddies were bad influences.

Week 5: The frog showed up and worked hard, but sat on the log for most of the week again with the other two frogs.

Week 6: The frog stayed on the log instead of showing up to training because the two other frog log buddies were going to drift their log over to the new, hot beaver dam.

So, to answer the question, three frogs remained on the log. The frog who decided to jump off and train only decided to jump off and train. The frog did not take the action necessary, aka commit.

Making a decision without backing it by action is not committing. Let’s  go over what committing means: “Feeling dedication and loyalty to a cause, activity, or job; wholeheartedly dedicated.”

And just so we are the same page, dedication means, “devoted to a task or purpose; having single-minded loyalty or integrity.” Thanks again, google.

What about the weeks the frog showed up? There were two frogs remaining physically on the log for those weeks. But, the frog was not present in training. Even though the frog’s body was training with me, his mind was still chilling on the log with the other two frogs.
